Every business sale is different, and it's hard to know exactly how long your business will take to sell. On average, businesses take at least six to nine months to sell, starting from the time you actively start looking for a buyer. To be safe, a rule of thumb is that you assume it will take a year from the start of the process to the completed sale of the business.
Keep in mind that the length of time it takes to sell your business will change based on many things. While six to nine months is a good estimate overall, your industry, location, financial performance, and the current economic conditions will all play a factor in getting a buyer to close an acquisition.
